BIM Show Live 2011

When I 1st heard about this event I was very excited as it confirmed that the BIM movement was well under way in the UK and this event provide it as even in the current ecconomic climate over 350 delegates still paid a fair buck to attend.

David Philp - Director of BIM Implementation gives us a run down on how he see's his role and vision over the next 5 years (with some classic slides including the BIMbineharvester)

End of the day Q&A

The event was around BIGBim Philosophy (see BIG BIM little bim book by Finith E. Jernigan and BIGBIM website by _space group)

The structure of the day was good with 4 sessions each focusing on the 4 key stages of BIG BIM with each speaker highlighting and showing off their everyday use of BIM.

Sessions I attended were:

Facilities Modelling from BIM - Paul Marsland, NG Bailey

BIMM: Building Information modelling and lifecycle management, Ed Bartlett, Kykloud

The Client Role in BIM - John Lorimer, MCC

Delivering BIM - Shaun Farrell, Zaha Hadid

A big thanks to all the presenters and to everyone in the background that made this possible but especially the guys at _space group.

One of the key moments was picking up this little beauty - cheers James.

After the event I was lucky to been invited to the BD BM Tweetup for some further BIM discussion.

To catch up on all the chatter on the day check our #bsl2011 on twitter.

See you all at #bsl2012 and beyond

GRUG Event 6

The Glasgow Revit User Group will be meeting tomorrow night at Mott MacDonald's Glasgow Office.

This is the 6th meeting of GRUG and only the 3rd this year due to busy work committments of the other group members and that fact I was bringing BIM to Berlin for 6 months.

Tomorrow we have - CadFaster|Collaborate is a cloud computing software tool that allows sharing, mark-up, and co-viewing of diverse 3D designs in real-time. In this presentation, Tuomas Holma demonstrates how CadFaster|Collaborate works both on a laptop and on an iPad and how it is used as a plug-in for Autodesk Revit.

Will also have some show and tell on families from the GRUG board.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

BIM National Event Scotland

I'm currently preparing an event with Keppie Design (Richard Kuppusamy & Derek Jones) and Laing O'Rourke (John Byrne) which is aimed at educating the audience in the BIM process and what is it we are actually doing, the benefits and long term goals aligning with the Big BIM philosophy.

Buro Happold in collaboration with Keppie Design and Laing O’Rourke are coming together to discuss BIM (Building Information Modelling) to inspire debate and collaboration amongst the Scottish building design community.
BIM has been a buzzword for some months now in the UK and with the recent release of the UK Governments Construction Stategy where the Government will require fully collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) as a minimum by 2016, will we be ready?
BIM National Event Scotland aims to show you what Buro Happold and co-speakers Keppie Design and Laing O’ Rourke have achieved in previous projects and what is being achieved in current projects through innovation.  We will also identify what all the fuss is about and what you need to know to ensure your projects run smoothly and are successful with the right design team onboard.
The event will take place in the inspiring surroundings of The Lighthouse, Scotland’s national centre for architecture and design.
To see latest developments or take part in discussions in the run up to this event please follow #BIMSCOTLAND on twitter.

What Another Blog on Revit, BIM, VDC blah blah blah

Greeting Programs

I had always wanted to create a blog but just never sat down long enough to get it up and running!, well here it is.

Hopefully over the coming months I'll be able to share some useful knowledge and experiences as I surf through the world on the BIM wave.
